The Duke’s Role

The Duke of York’s role involves supporting The Queen as Head of State; supporting the business community within society and looking forward to finding ways to enhance their ability to create prosperity for the UK. Key areas of focus for the coming period are:

  • Working alongside others to create an environment in which the UK can be the best place in the world for Science and Engineering
  • Encouraging and inspiring young people to develop the right skills to play a role in enabling our businesses to thrive
  • Recognising and supporting the many apprentice schemes that are developing as a part of HMG’s Skills and Innovation agenda
  • Working with Entrepreneurs in the UK to ensure that they are sufficiently supported in their business endeavours
  • Encouraging and supporting UK businesses in developing high tech and high value manufacturing
  • Encouraging and recognising scientists and entrepreneurs who develop their innovations and discoveries in the UK
  • Recognising success, achievement and excellence particularly in a business environment
  • Recognising the pre-eminence and importance of the UK as a global financial centre; particularly London
  • Ensuring our Businesses, and especially our SMEs, are aware of the opportunities that exist to develop their businesses internationally
  • Ensuring UK businesses can make the most from the London Olympic business legacy opportunities.

Alongside his business responsibilities His Royal Highness also helps to develop charitable organisations, patronages and key initiatives that enhance social entrepreneurial activity and young people for the future.
